A giant asteroid will approach our Earth in 2023. This would be the closest approach to Earth by this celestial body since scientists began recording data.
NASA scientists predict that the asteroid with a diameter of 150 to 320 m is approaching Earth and will come closest in October 2023, News week reported.

Estimates indicate that the asteroid bears the symbol 1998 HH49the size of a yacht, will be 1.2 million kilometers from Earth, three times the distance between the Earth and the Moon.
Previously, the last time 1998 HH49 approached Earth was in 2021, but it was more than 64 million kilometers away by then. NASA predicts that this asteroid will only be closer to Earth in 2023 when it approaches in 2163, more than 640,000 km away.
When an asteroid approaches Earth within a radius of 7.4 million km and has a diameter of 140 m, it will be classified as an object. “Potentially dangerous”as was the case with asteroid 1998 HH49.
However, such a classification does not mean that it will pose an imminent threat.
“The classification simply means that over the coming centuries and millennia, the orbit of asteroids could evolve and potentially impact Earth.”said Paul Chodas, director of NASA’s Center for Near-Earth Object Studies.
NASA says there are 30 asteroids “Potentially dangerous” will approach Earth next year, but it is unlikely that they will collide with Earth in the next century.
