Loïs Leblanc, an 18-year-old volunteer, found the meteorite fragment from asteroid 2023 CX1 (Sar2667) while searching north of Rouen, France.

1m wide asteroid 2023 CX1 Plunged into the atmosphere and burned up in the European sky on February 13 at 10 a.m. (Hanoi time), just hours after astronomer Krisztián Sárneczky discovered it with a telescope.
“I discovered this small object during my daily hunt for Near-Earth Objects (NEO). I knew right away that it was a NEO. It wasn’t moving too fast in the sky, it was heading straight towards us and seemed quite blurry”, Sarneczky said on February 13. This is not the first time Sárneczky has issued an early warning about fireballs. “Hunter” This professional asteroid did the same thing in March 2022.
The American Meteor Society (AMS) received more than 70 reports of fireballs on February 13 from many locations in Europe, including England, France, Belgium and the Netherlands. The discovery of 2023 CX1 hours before it crashed into Earth is the 7th time astronomers have done so in the history of asteroid tracking, according to the European Space Agency (ESA).

Vigie-Ciel volunteer group announced the discovery of Leblanc on February 16 on the social network Twitter. Vigie-Ciel together FRIPON project cooperates with many French scientific organizations such as the Paris Observatory and the University of Paris-Saclay to operate in the space domain.
Leblanc discovered the meteorite when he noticed a dark rock lying horizontally on the ground in a field in the town of Saint-Pierre-le-Viger. Vigie-Ciel plans to survey the area and coordinate with local residents to search for more meteorite fragments.
Most fireballs are harmless and debris rarely falls to the ground. However, NASA, ESA, and many other organizations still monitor the sky 24/7 for any asteroids approaching Earth’s orbit.
