Mysterious fragments not belonging to anything called Earth have been discovered in the Dessert Formation of Western Australia’s famous Pilbara Craton, bringing important discoveries to science about the profile of proto-Earth .

The discovery has not yet been officially published in a scientific journal, but was briefly presented at the 54th Conference on Lunar and Planetary Sciences (Texas – USA), during which an international group of scientists from Australia, New Zealand, Austria and Argentina said: These fragments are the remains of the oldest asteroid to hit Earth that mankind has ever known.

Drilled into a group of volcanic rocks in the Pilbara Craton – the pristine remnants of Earth billions of years ago – The fragments are up to 3.48 billion years oldabout 10 million years older than the oldest asteroids ever discovered before.

The research team concluded that these fragments were of extraterrestrial origin when analyzing their chemical composition, revealing platinum group elements with much higher concentrations than terrestrial rocks, as well as some special minerals that the is only found in meteorites.

The fragments also have a strange spherical or droplet shape, characteristic of the “collision ball” it is often found when meteorites crash into Earth.

Evidence of ancient meteorite impacts with Earth is often difficult to find due to the process of plate tectonics and erosion that constantly disrupts all land areas on the planet.

But along with the Pilbara Craton, an ancient piece of land left billions of years ago, they have been spectacularly preserved. Finding these ancient extraterrestrial visitors is extremely valuable, as it can help learn a lot about Earth’s history and how the planet was created. “mature” thanks to many imported factors – including the hypothesis that life was seeded by asteroids and comets.
