The universe of gases, dust and stars belongs to the spiral galaxy IC 5332, located in the Sculptor constellation more than 29 million light years from Earth. Because it lies almost perfectly opposite Earth, its spiral arms are extremely clearly visible.
This is not the first time IC 5332 has been photographed. The 66,000 light-year-wide galaxy, about two-thirds the size of our Milky Way, has also been photographed by the Hubble Space Telescope in the past. But Hubble cannot see anything in the infrared region of the electromagnetic spectrum, while the James Webb Space Telescope can..
