New research in France and the United States shows that the cold and mysterious “Oort cloud” at the edge of the solar system hides an unknown exoplanet.
Scientists from the University of Bordeaux (France), Rice University and Oklahoma State University (USA) have built a model reproducing the evolution of the solar system from the very beginning, based on data compiled by spacecraft and space agencies around the world collected.
They discovered that one or more planet-sized objects could have been captured by a mysterious structure called “Oort cloud“.

“Oort Cloud” are not literally clouds, but rather a huge collection of icy objects that stretch across space from a few hundred billion to several trillion miles from the Sun.
About 4.5 billion years ago, when the solar system was just forming, gravity sent debris from rapidly cooling protoplanetary dust clouds the same way humans would hit a billiard ball far away.
Some of these coins have the potential to become a real planet. this piece found “roof” new, i.e. accidentally hit another star system and retained.
Theo living sciences, This is not just a hypothesis, because the “rejected planet” this has been documented by observations in other distant star systems.
Ϲthere are two scenarios that occur “Oort Cloud” have one or more planets hidden inside.
- Scenario 1“The “Oort cloud” managed to keep a certain protoplanet launched by the solar system itself. The probability of this scenario is 0.5%.
- Second scenario, a planet formed from a protoplanetary fragment from another star system passed by accidentally and was captured by the “Oort cloud”, with a probability of up to 7%.
However, this 9th planet will not be “” that some groups of scientists were looking for, the ghostly object that seems to affect the orbits of Neptune and other debris around it.
The mysterious planet, or mysterious planets located in the “Oort cloud”, will be too far away to be affected, as they will present great challenges to capture it directly.
