Life clues?

For the first time, American scientists have captured a clear signal from an Earth-like planet, detecting the main factors necessary for the survival of life.

pig live science, This result comes from recent observations of VLA – radio interference measuring telescope located in New Mexico, the American Southwest – while looking “south”star YZ Ceti only 12 light years from Earth.

Scientists from the National Radio Astronomy Observatory (NRAO – USA) have not only identified a planet around this star – named YZ Ceti b – but also confirmed that it was a rocky planet like Earth.

Although the possibility of life on this star is low, because YZ Ceti b is so close to the star and may be too hot, scientists have discovered something more interesting: Some radio signals show signs of magnetic fields.

A magnetic field surrounds a planet, forming a protective layer called From the book, is one of the main factors that can ensure the survival of organisms. Earth is an example of a planet with a strong magnetosphere, so we are not affected by the strong effects of cosmic rays.

Many other elements that make up a habitable planet also have the possibility of being preserved durably, for example, if there is no magnetosphere or if the strength of this magnetosphere is too weak, our atmosphere will quickly erode. , it is even possible that water was lost in space like Mars in the past.

Whether YZ Ceti b survives or not, this discovery remains a major step forward in the journey to prove that we are not alone in the universe.

“This study not only shows that this particular rocky planet is likely to have a magnetic field, but it also provides a promising method to discover more.” – RAO director Joe Pesce, said a member of the research team.

For an easy start, the scientists chose YZ Ceti b because it is close to the parent star and can be clearly observed. But thanks to this proven method of filtering signals, they will have a springboard to reach planets containing more elements favorable to life. This type of planet has been discovered many times and still awaits further study.

Along with YZ Ceti b, its magnetosphere also helps scientists further study its parent star, thus understanding what is called “Extrasolar Space Weather”.

ƝA research has just been published in a scientific journal Natural astronomy.
