The EELS robot is designed to easily traverse many terrains such as water, sand, rock and ice, helping to explore celestial bodies in the solar system..

ASA is working on a plan to use solid robots to explore and search for alien lifeforms in the solar system. This bot is Instrument for the Investigation of Extraterrestrial Biological Existence (EELS) TO DO Jet Propulsion Laboratory (JPL) developed by ƝASA, Interesting engineering April 13 was reported.

EELS can traverse holes, crevices, and fissures in celestial bodies in the solar system, helping to explore deep and hard-to-reach places. The self-propelled robot is also designed to easily traverse a variety of terrains such as water, sand, rock and ice. This stems from the robot’s ability to change and adapt its shape to fit the landscape. Additionally, it also has rotating screws to grab and wiggle through ice structures.

The team recently conducted tests for the robot inside Athabasca Glacier And lean volcano, Canada. This is the first step in analyzing the robot’s resilience and navigating it over rough terrain to further refine the final design.

Development of the EELS robot was spurred by the remarkable discovery of plumes of water vapor that Enceladus, Saturn’s icy moon, launched into space. This raises the possibility of a habitable liquid ocean beneath the frozen crust of Enceladus.

Scientists and engineers hope to study crater systems on Enceladus by sending ELSS through the moon’s crevices. “The adaptability of EELS opens up the possibility of exploring many other destinations such as the polar ice cap on Mars or the ever-deeper fissures in Earth’s ice caps.”explained ƝASA.

EELS could also help future astronauts build bases on the Moon. The robot can easily traverse lava caves and craters and determine where and how much water exists on the Moon’s surface. These remote places are difficult to reach, but snake robots can operate there effectively and send back to Earth a wealth of valuable data. NASA’s team of experts is working hard to perfect improvements with ƐELS.
