ASA Director Bill Nelson said: “Today we are pleased to announce that blue origin – On behalf of Second NASA supplier – will build a system to help bring astronauts to the surface of the Moon as part of the Artemis program. We are in the golden age of manned spaceflight, made possible by NASA’s commercial and international partnerships. Together, we are investing in the infrastructure that will pave the way for sending the first astronauts to Mars.”

According to the contract, billionaire Jeff Zezos’ company is on a mission to send NASA astronauts to the moon and then bring them back to Earth. Blue Origin will first perform an unmanned flight to the Moon to demonstrate the lander’s capabilities, followed by a flight to bring astronauts to this planet, scheduled for 2029.

A handful of private companies like Elon Musk’s SpaceX and Bezos’ Blue Origin are trying to play a bigger role in space exploration and compete for contracts. “fat” of the US government.

In April 2021, NASA signed a contract worth 2.89 billion USD with SpaceX to develop a rock system on the Moon, to bring 2 astronauts to this planet according to the Artemis 3 mission. Blue Origin has also participated in the bid on this occasion, but was disqualified.

Sharing this new stage of cooperation on Twitter, billionaire Bezos said he “It’s an honor to be with NASA to send astronauts to the Moon.”

According to the plan, Blue Origin will coordinate with 5 other partners – including: 2 defense contractors Lockheed Martin and Boeing, spacecraft software company Draper and 2 robotics companies, Astrobotic and Honeybee Robotics – to build blue moon lander16m high.
