Two Russian and American space agencies, Roscosmos and NASA, are considering the possibility that a potential danger is already present on the Russian Soyuz MS-22 and Progress MS-21 ships.
Soyuz MS-22 and Progress MS-21 are two Russian ships that recently went to the International Space Station (ISS) to work, of which Soyuz is a human transport ship (3 astronauts from Roscosmos and NASA), Progress is an unmanned ship carrying supplies.
The Soyuz MS-22 spacecraft crashed in mid-December 2022 and only 3 months later it was the turn of the Progress MS-21, both damaged. coolant leak. Only the Soyuz spacecraft was concluded caused by meteorite impact or small debris, after a joint investigation by Roscosmos and NASA. Roscosmos suspects that Progress was affected by an incident in October 2022, but is not certain.

Leaf Space Quoting NASA ISS program director Joel Montalbano said the continued incidents had prompted Roscomos to think takes a closer look at the country’s spacecraft manufacturing processes.
“In addition to orbital debris, our team, Roscosmos and Energia are studying the production process” – Mr. Montalbano revealed during the press conference the successful return of another spacecraft, SpaceX Dragon, which previously carried 4 Japanese – Russian – American astronauts to the ISS.
Energy is the main contractor for Russia’s human spaceflight program and the main manufacturer of Russia’s two ship lines, Soyuz and Progress.
The incident left the Soyuz MS-22 spacecraft no longer safe enough to return 3 astronauts to Earth, forcing them to temporarily “failed” without a rescue vehicle if the ISS encountered a problem, until Russia was able to send the Soyuz MS-23 ship to the station a few days ago.
NASA said it had confidence in the new Soyuz, but would keep an eye on any new developments. Roscosmos will do the same thing.
Because Soyuz MS-23 – the ship that was supposed to take 3 other astronauts to replace the group traveling aboard MS-22 in March – was used as a rescue vehicle, so the group of astronauts above will have to extend the mission until arrival from Russia. the MS-24 ship carrying the replacement group to the station – expected in June.
The crashed Soyuz craft is expected to be returned to an uncrewed state, while the Progress MS-21 has been controlled to return “suicide” to Earth’s atmosphere, with the remainder falling into the Pacific Ocean today, February 19 .
