It is a type of remote sensing satellite capable of capturing images from space, thereby monitoring the quality of coastal seawater. This “Made in Vietnam” product is worth millions of dollars.
The Microdragon satellite is a product developed by the Vietnam Space Center, a unit of the Vietnam Academy of Science and Technology.
The Vietnam Space Center project is contributed by Vietnamese students who have studied at 5 major universities in Japan.
satellite microdragon
Pictured is a model of the Microdragon satellite. It has dimensions of 50x50x50 cm, weighs 50 kg and has an orbit of 500 km.
Microdragon uses energy supplied by solar panels whose maximum battery output capacity is 140W. This satellite can carry a range of remote sensing devices to help capture images from space, monitoring coastal seawater quality. These images will then be transmitted to a ground processing center.
Micro Dragon is known to be the next step in the process of gradually capturing and mastering Vietnamese satellite design and manufacturing technology. Previously, Vietnam Space Center engineers successfully built the Pico Dragon microsatellite (10 x 10 x 11.35 cm, 1 kg). This satellite was launched into orbit in November 2013 and successfully operated in space. PicoDragon is the premise and experimental product of Vietnam National Space Center to later launch larger satellites. Because it is a test product, the life of this satellite is only 3 months of use.
After Micro Dragon, according to the roadmap, Vietnam will proceed with the manufacture of LOTUSat-1 and LOTUSat-2 satellites, two satellites using advanced radar technology with a mass of about 600 kg, almost 12 times MicroDragon, the size is 1.5m x 1.5m x 3m, existed in space for 5 years.

The goal of the Strategy for Research and Application of Space Technology By 2020, Vietnam will own a satellite made by Vietnam by 2020, the government of Vietnam decided to implement the project “Prevention and control disasters” and climate change using Earth observation satellites” to achieve this strategy.
