Vast Space Startup in California on May 10 announced plans to launch Haven-1 station. on SpaceX’s Falcon 9 rocket by August 2025 at the latest. This was followed by the Vast-1 mission to ferry the crew to the new station and stay there for 30 days. Vast-1 is also launching on a Falcon 9 rocket, and astronauts will remain in SpaceX’s Dragon capsule.
“Vast will launch the world’s first commercial space station Haven-1 and the first crew will be Vast-1”shared Jed Mcaleb, the company’s CEO. “Partnering with SpaceX is the first step in the long-term goal of launching more massive artificial gravity space stations into Earth orbit and beyond.”
Vast is a fledgling company created two years ago. The company aims to operate a 100m-long, multi-module artificial gravity space station launched by SpaceX’s transportation system. Vast will explore how to conduct the world’s first artificial gravity experiment with Hɑven-1. The company sells 4 seats in the Vɑst-1 mission. SpaceX will be in charge of training astronauts, providing spacesuits and many other services, similar to X-1, a private flight performed by Houston-based Axiom Space in April 2022.
If all goes as planned, Haven-1 will be one of several private stations under development. For example, there are plans to launch several modules to the ISS in the coming years. This complex will then separate and become a free flight station. By the end of 2021, NASA is also funding a total of $415 million for the team of Blue Origin, Nanoracks and NorthRoad Grumman, with the hope that at least one private station will operate in low Earth orbit before the station. end of 2030.
