To create this image, Andrew McCarthy and Jason Guenzel used a number of photos of themselves, including a total solar eclipse taken in 2017, and a wealth of data from the Solar and Solar Observatory, a spacecraft launched by NASA in 1995 in cooperation with the European Space Agency, Live Science On April 5, it was reported.
The pair of photographers assembled around 90,000 images of the Sun to create the final work they call “The Fusion of Helios”showing the star’s fiery surface with swirling jets of plasma resembling the fluff covering a tennis ball.
In the upper right corner of the image is “plasma vortex” the highest ever recorded at the Sun’s north pole. It amounts to 178,000 km, or 14 Ƭ of aligned land. This event lasted about 3 days before turning into a plasma cloud and being ejected into space.

One of the challenges McCarthy and Guenzel faced was imaging both the corona (the outermost part of the Sun’s atmosphere) and the chromosphere (the thin layer of plasma between the corona and the visible surface of the Sun). These parts are observable only under certain conditions.
“We want to push astrophotography as far as possible, both scientifically and artistically, creating ultra-sharp images of the Sun in a way that breaks the rules of conventional astrophotography. We often wanted to create a complete mosaic of the Sun. Sun.”shared McCarthy.
Guenzel further pointed out that the work “Helios Combination” is the image of the sun “the most detailed and lively” that he and McCarthy created.
