A Japanese company is preparing a project to create the world’s first artificial meteor shower by sending hundreds of satellites into space.
This meteor shower scene was supposed to air in 2020, but due to satellite issues, the airing was delayed.
NOW, space startup ALE based in Tokyo revealed that the launch is planned for 2025. The meteor shower will bring the world “the chance to witness the world’s first live artificial meteor shower”.
Meteor showers occur when Earth passes through a cloud of debris left by comets and asteroids in its orbit.
SKY CANVAS Project will recreate a meteor shower by installing “meteor particles” in satellites at an altitude of 400 km and launching them over a designated area.

The spherical particles with a diameter of 0.4 inches and weighing a few grams, or about the size of a pea, have a secret chemical formula that causes them to burn up from friction as they return to the planet at a speed of 5 miles per hour. .seconds.
According to ALE, these particles will move more slowly and shine up to 10 seconds brighter than real shooting stars. Artificial meteor showers will be visible at a distance of 200 km.

Along with this, the color of each streak of light can be changed by adjusting the ingredients contained within the particles, opening up the possibility of creating a meteor shower with many different colors.
Dr. Lena Okajima, Founder and CEO of ALE, said: “I initially founded ALE to create the world’s first downstream artificial meteor showers to generate greater interest in space and science in general. In the future, by combining important climate research with a new form of space entertainment, we believe we can advance the scientific understanding of climate change, sparking curiosity and interest in space among people around the world. and the universe. »
